In this guide, discover the benefits of using our FBO. We have the best passenger benefits, experiences and transportation methods available for our customers.
When you’re looking for private, luxurious flight service, a Fixed Base Operator (FBO) is key. It provides you with private and charter planes to fly all over the world. But choosing the best FBO for your aircraft or airport takes some strategy.
In 1926 the United States welcomed the Air Commerce Act. This outlined the number of regulations given to pilots, aircraft, and mechanics. In the end, the FBO experience was born once pilots and crew established their fixed bases.
Not many people are aware of their options for airport FBOs. There are also people who aren’t sure about the FBO meaning either. Here you can learn how to find the best FBO and the difference it can make to enjoy your fleet.
1. The History of FBO Matters
The term FBO was born in the United States near the end of the First World War. During that time, civil aviation was an unregulated practice known as the “Barnstormers”. Many ex-military transient pilots, who operated for civil aviation and charter flights went by this name.
Since airports hardly existed in 1918, farmers fields served as airstrips. As these Barnstormers traveled, they offered flights, demonstrations, and airshows. They became a travel tour and a mass transit system at the same time.
Mechanics often traveled with the pilots to keep everything running smoothly. It helped the military surplus create the original aircraft industry. Unfortunately, the nature of pilots, aircraft, and mechanics could not be sustained in the long run.
2. FBO Customer Service is Top Notch
What makes a great FBO experience is the level of customer service, the costs, the associations at other airports, and the expertise and history. One of the major highlights of our FBO aviation is our top-notch customer service. We ensure a smooth operation of private charter flights at airports.
Airports are notoriously busy and more hectic as the day goes on. From day-to-day running to complex coordinating, it’s hard to fulfill a customer’s needs. But an FBO airport can navigate these issues, government regulations, and business requirements.
Our FBO service will provide fueling, food service, and flight crew amenities. You won’t have to worry about a lack of aircraft hangaring or tie-down services. And our repair and overhaul make up for any stressful days you’ve had at the airport.
3. Our Fuel Prices Makes a Difference
The best FBO aviation provides you with refueling options for your plane. Prices usually vary between airports and between operators. We don’t want you to worry about this — we’ll handle the rest.
Our FBO aviation can help you check the most recent fuel prices available. Yet, if you find better FBO prices, bring them to our attention. We can discuss options based on other services, waivers, rebates or loyalty programs.
4. You Will Have the Right Food Service
An FBO airport with a wide array of food options is absolutely necessary.
You and your guests deserve complimentary coffee, snack bars, and even table services. Expect luxury food options to provide you with unique experiences for you and your guests. For any special dietary requests, you can speak with one of our specialists.
5. Our Flight Crew Amenities
A happy crew makes for the best FBO experience.
For a smooth operation on your aircraft, the crew needs the option to stay close to an FBO airport during their downtime. We can provide quality services to keep our crew in the best frame of mind in-between long hauls and downtime. You and your guests will be able to interact with a happy and helpful line of staff.
6. Quality Aircraft Hangaring and Tie-Down Service
For a safe storage system of your aircraft, take our services into consideration. Airport FBOs need quality storage for both the short and long-term. Our FBO follows local regulations and will ensure that your belongings are safe and secure at all times.
7. Our Aircraft Charter and Management Services
Our priority is to provide aircraft owners with the best management of charter services. ACM is one of the best ways to earn back your ROI without worry. Aircraft owners won’t have to stress over any strict regulations or restrictions to their fleets.
8. Repair and Overhaul You Can Depend On
A full-service FBO airport requires regular maintenance and repairs on aircraft. These are essential to running airport FBOs without putting passengers’ lives at risk. Our FBO has a history of quality maintenance services, so no need to worry about that.
9. Our Affiliate Airports
The best FBO should have associations with other domestic and international airports. Most associations come in the actual business presence and contract agreements with other FBOs. You can expect both from our FBO aviation.
A common route or strategic business outcome can be a huge help. It will guide you towards deciding on which FBO is best for you. More affiliations mean even more options for smooth travels.
10. Our FBO Costs and Fees
Costs always matter and you should consider any overarching schemes of an FBO. You want your FBO agreement to achieve low costs while maintaining quality services. Our FBO blends strategy, quality, and cost-efficiency for each and every customer.
Keep These Tips in Mind
The history of expertise will always matter when deciding on the best FBO for you. In the private aircraft industry, you want to consider every aspect before making any decisions. That way, you can guarantee that you’ll have a smooth operation flight after flight.

These pertain to ramp and hangar safety, as well as site access and identification procedures.
The National Business Aviation Association has developed a list of best security practices which include:
Safety Procedures for the FBO Physical Plant and Facilities:
- Facility perimeter is secure with fencing and lighting, particularly around fuel farms.
- Ensure that non-primary doors, gates, and windows are closed and locked.
- Close and lock hangar doors when not in use.
- Install an access control management system for all key and pass holders.
- Escort visitors on the ramp and hangar areas.
- Fuel truck keys should be removed from truck ignition when unattended.
Aviation Safety Recommendations Regarding Ramp Access:
- Require identification prior to allowing ramp access. Verify the identity of aircraft crew prior to allowing ramp, hangar and aircraft.
- Concierge services allow for taxis, limos, and rental cars to pick up travelers at their facilities. Require identification of all non-airport personnel and every third-party vehicle.
- Once crew has been cleared, have these individuals identify all enplaning passengers prior to granting ramp access.
- Deplaning travelers should be met by FBO personnel and escorted to the terminal. This is for their safety to avoid possible injury from other planes that may be starting, standing or taxiing,

Tips to Select the Right Business Jet FBO for Your Needs
Executives who travel for business require more than the standard amenities offered by the majority of FBOs. En route to their destination, they need to continue working seamlessly, whether in flight or on the ground during a brief layover. WiFi, and comfortable, quiet, productivity-oriented surroundings are a must. When their company jet touches down for refueling and possible maintenance, a dreary, auto dealership-type waiting room will not suffice.
Ideally, any waiting facility should have welcome amenities, such as comfortable seating, in spaces that allow for collaboration in a light, airy, and spacious location. In addition, a self-serve coffee and beverages bar, with snacks available, would offer a brief, but welcome respite while their plane is being serviced. On the topic of service, competitive fuel prices and the superior avionic maintenance and repair, found in a FAR Part -145 FAA- certified facility ensure minimal wait times and the highest quality work. In short, the right FBO is a business jet FBO.
What Criteria to Use to Select an Private Jet FBO
Not long ago, private jets had limited options when selecting a business jet FBO. It was chosen by location alone. Today, however, it has become increasingly common for a private airport to support more than one FBO. Among these FBOs, amenities and costs can vary widely. Here are some tips to simplify your FBO selection process:
- What services does the FBO offer? If it offers just plane refueling and maintenance, this is not an optimal choice for the business traveler.
- Consistency is key to a successful pit stop. Is the business jet FBO associated with a leading FBO services provider? For example, the international FBO organization, Signature Flight Support partners with FBOs worldwide to provide its members with wanted amenities and consistently superior services and facilities.
- In addition to a lounge, does the waiting facility offer conference rooms for collaborative work?
- Does the facility provide Concierge Services to assist in making dining and lodging reservations, or to arrange for ground transportation, and even recreational activities?
- Is short or long-term plan storage available? Frequently, routine maintenance uncovers a potential problem which must be repaired. The ability to store and hangar your aircraft, as needed is a boon to protecting your investment.
A member of Signature Select®, Republic Jet Center, headquartered in Farmingdale, New York, has provided this guide for the convenience of frequent business flyers, their pilots, and crew. This FBO recently opened a new, 30,000 square foot facility that includes state-of-the-art avionic maintenance and repair, as well as an upscale lounge and conference center, that includes Concierge Services. Where your aircraft touches down can make the difference between a pleasant journey, or a frustrating trip. That’s because typical amenities at these facilities include FBO services for your aircraft, while the passenger, pilot and crews’ requirements are often overlooked. Even if your plane just needs fuel, there could be a long wait for service. No one wants to wait possibly hours on a grimy bench, watching a news feed. Many who travel on private aircraft are seeking FBOs that feature more upscale amenities and conveniences so that visit does not automatically mean a dreary downtime anymore.
Not long ago, a private jet trip was planned in accordance with destination, and the estimated time between fuel stops. Passenger and crew conveniences were an afterthought. Did you know that an airport can have several FBOs? In fact, not all FBOs are created alike. What was once a niche business, is now becoming more mainstream and competition is greater. When the playing field was level, gas prices were the primary attraction to choose one FBO over another. Today’s business travelers, and even those flying for recreational pursuits, demand more from an FBO visit or layover. Discriminating flyers are expecting more luxurious FBO services when they disembark on the tarmac.
Private business jet travelers require more from an FBO. In addition, they are seeking upscale corporate concessions as well as general aviation services. In flight, many business travelers continue to conduct business, and be served meals and snacks as needed. They need to fully utilize their time on the ground as well. Optimal FBO services facilities address these needs and provide luxuriously-appointed lounges equipped with WiFi, conference rooms for collaboration, and a self-service beverage and snack bar, too.
Fulfilling Passengers, Pilot and Crews’ Requirements
Perhaps the greatest amenity an FBO can offer, is a concierge who can see to their ground transportation, dining, lodging and even recreational requirements. This is especially useful if their aircraft requires extended maintenance. The comfort and needs of the pilot and crew are also considerations that the more advanced FBOs will have anticipated and met. These include on-site shower and even pilot lounges for individuals who must remain with the aircraft.
To conclude, as private jet travel increases, competition among FBOs will as well. The FBO services facility that consistently provides an elevated range of services and luxury amenities will gain the trust and repeat business from discriminating private jet travelers.
Republic Jet Center, an FBO that has partnered with Signature Select®, the leading FBO services management corporation, recently opened a new, upscale, 100,000 square foot facility. Those flying private jets and turboprops to Long Island, New York, have a choice of Fixed Base Operators (FBOs) from Montauk to Manhattan who can fuel and service their aircraft. Not all FBOs are alike, however, and an FBO’s distance relative to your destination may not be the soundest reason to choose one FBO over another. That’s because the Island is roughly 125 miles long and about 25 miles wide, so ‘most any location can be easily reached by ground transportation or helicopter. Instead, there are other factors that can make a private jet stop convenient for passengers and crew alike. Here are a few scenarios to assist with your decision.
FBO Scenario 1
After a weekend on the East End, a private jet whose passengers are headed to Manhattan stop at a Long Island FBO to refuel. They learn that their aircraft requires a repair to be regulation compliant. The FBO provides maintenance and repair services, as well as ramp space for the jet for the week the aircraft will be serviced. The passengers and crew, however, are left to reach their destination themselves.
FBO Scenario 2
After a weekend in the Hamptons, a private jet headed for Philadelphia stops at Republic Jet Center, another Long Island FBO, for service and refueling. Upon disembarking, the passengers and crew are met by customer service representatives who offer to arrange ground transport for an afternoon of local shopping, entertainment, or relaxation in their luxurious VIP lounge. (Special facilities for the crew are also available.) There is also the option of taking a helicopter into the City for the day, if desired.
Both facilities provide regulation-compliant maintenance and repair by certified avionic technicians. But the second ensures that the travelers’ and crew’s day will be spent as productively as possible. Which Long Island FBO would you be likely to choose?
Located in Farmingdale, New York, Republic Jet Charter is a full-service FBO affiliated with the prestigious Signature Select® whose members earn rewards for every time they visit.
